Current conditions and a short forecast for any location on Earth — read live from the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) for U.S. points, including active alerts, and from MET Norway (api.met.no) for everywhere else. Neither is a resold vendor feed. Up to 20 checks per day, free.

What this does — and doesn't — cover

  • Worldwide coverage, two providers. U.S. points (50 states, D.C., U.S. territories) read from the National Weather Service; every other point on Earth reads from MET Norway's global forecast model — the response's provider field says which one answered.
  • Current conditions for U.S. points come from the nearest NWS observation station, which can be several miles from the exact coordinates given.
  • U.S. forecasts cover up to 7 days (day/night periods) with active alerts (watches/warnings/advisories) included by default; non-U.S. forecasts cover up to 7 days (12-hour periods) with no alerts — MET Norway's public feed has no alerts product.
  • Free-text address/city input only ever resolves U.S. addresses (via the Census Geocoder) — a ZIP code or bare "City, State" may still fail to geocode. For any non-U.S. location, enter latitude/longitude directly.
  • Non-U.S. results carry MET Norway's required CC BY 4.0 / NLOD 2.0 attribution in the response's attribution field and caveats.

FAQ

Is this a free weather API with no API key?

Yes for casual/browser use — this page calls a rate-limited free endpoint (20 lookups/IP/day) with no signup and no key. The underlying paid route, for scripts, agents, or higher volume, is pay-per-call in USDC on Base — also no account or API-key signup.

Does this work outside the United States?

Yes. Non-U.S. locations read live from MET Norway's Locationforecast API (api.met.no), the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's own global public forecast model, licensed CC BY 4.0 / NLOD 2.0. Coverage there is current conditions + a short forecast only — no active-weather-alerts feed, since MET Norway's public API doesn't publish one. Enter latitude/longitude for a non-U.S. location; free-text place names outside the U.S. aren't supported (no commercial-relay-safe keyless geocoder exists for them).

Is this an API wrapper, or a resold vendor feed like OpenWeatherMap?

No. It reads api.weather.gov (U.S.) or api.met.no (everywhere else) directly — each a government meteorological agency's own public API, not a mirror of a third-party commercial weather vendor.

Can I look up weather by ZIP code?

A ZIP code alone usually won't resolve. Enter a full U.S. street address (e.g. "233 S Wacker Dr, Chicago, IL 60606") and it's geocoded to coordinates first via the U.S. Census Geocoder, or switch to the coordinates tab and enter latitude/longitude directly — required for any non-U.S. location.

Does this include weather alerts?

For U.S. locations, yes — active NWS alerts (watches, warnings, advisories) are included by default alongside current conditions and the forecast, sourced from the same api.weather.gov alerts endpoint used by NWS's own tools. For non-U.S. locations, no — the response's alerts_supported field is false and alerts is always empty.
