This route runs a crypto-focused query through the GDELT Project's free DOC 2.0 news-monitoring API, optionally merged with Hacker News' keyless search API for resilience if GDELT is rate-limited. Both are free, keyless, and explicitly permit unrestricted commercial use.
Is the market_tone field a sentiment score for each headline?
No. GDELT's news-search API does not expose a per-article sentiment score, so this route never fabricates one. market_tone is GDELT's own aggregate tone-over-time reading for the whole crypto query — clearly labeled as aggregate, not per-headline.
Does this return full article text?
No. Like a search-engine results page, this returns only headline/URL/source metadata and links out to the original publisher — never a copy of the article body.
How often does the headline list refresh?
The underlying feed is periodically re-warmed on this origin in production so most calls are served from a fresh cache; if the live source is briefly rate-limited, you may see a slightly older cached set rather than a failed call.
