Is this Base network gas, or Ethereum mainnet gas?
Base network only (Base mainnet, chain ID 8453) — an Ethereum L2. Base gas is typically a small fraction of Ethereum L1 gas because most transaction cost there is execution gas, not L1 data fees. This tool does not read Ethereum L1 or any other chain.
Where does this gas price come from — is it a gas-oracle vendor like Etherscan or Blocknative?
No. It reads Base's own public JSON-RPC endpoint directly (eth_gasPrice, eth_maxPriorityFeePerGas, eth_getBlockByNumber) — the same calls a wallet or contract would make on-chain. It is not a mirror of a third-party gas-oracle API.
How often does the gas price update?
The response is cached for up to 30 seconds shared across all callers, since Base's own base fee moves at most gradually block-to-block. Refresh the page for a new reading.
What is the suggested max fee, and can I trust it?
It's a computed heuristic — twice the current base fee plus the suggested priority fee — the same convention major Ethereum client libraries use so a transaction survives a few blocks of base-fee increase. It is not a guarantee of the exact price your transaction lands at.
